🎀 Introduction – The Quiet Beauty of Pressed Flowers
There’s something deeply calming about pressing flowers — watching their color and form quietly change over time.
But if you’ve ever tried it, you’ll know the hardest part is keeping those delicate petals from fading or turning yellow.
In this post, I’ll share my simple routine for keeping pressed flowers bright and beautiful — a method that’s gentle, practical, and easy to do at home.
Watch the video tutorial to see the full process step by step.
❓ Why Do Pressed Flowers Lose Their Color?
Two main reasons cause fading: air and moisture.
When flowers are exposed to air, oxidation happens and the colors slowly dull.
And when moisture remains trapped inside the petals — either from the plant itself or the humid weather — it leads to browning or mold.
That’s why drying and sealing are the two quiet secrets behind every vivid pressed flower. 🌿
💡My Simple Drying Method
I use absorbent boards (also called drying boards) to remove moisture efficiently.
They feel like soft cardboard at first, but after they absorb water from the petals, they become softer — this means it’s time to dry them again.
Every two days, I open my press to check the flowers and heat-dry the boards using a hair dryer on low heat.
Once the board turns dry and firm again, it’s ready to be reused.
(Tip: Always start from the lowest heat setting and test for 1–2 minutes to avoid overheating.)

🧳After Drying — Storing the Boards
When not in use, I keep my absorbent boards in airtight bags.
If left out, they’ll naturally absorb moisture from the air — especially in humid climates like Guangzhou.
Sealing them helps keep everything dry and ready for next time.
💌A Little Reflection 🌸
Keeping flowers bright isn’t about perfection — it’s about patience.
Some petals will still fade, and that’s okay.
Even when the colors soften, there’s a quiet kind of beauty in their change — a reminder that every stage has its charm.
