Key point: How to use Mod Podge with pressed flowers on glass
Sometimes a small light is enough to change the whole atmosphere of a room.
In this episode, I’m sharing how I made a soft night light using a simple glass jar, pressed flowers, and Mod Podge.
It’s an easy project, but the result feels calm, warm, and surprisingly cozy.

About Mod Podge

Mod Podge is more than just a glue — it works as a bonding agent and a protective layer at the same time.
That’s why it’s especially suitable for projects like this one.
In this project, I use Mod Podge mainly on glass, but it also works very well on wood surfaces.
On glass, it helps pressed flowers adhere smoothly while creating a soft, diffused finish once dry.
On wood, it can enhance the natural texture and give the surface a subtle, matte, wood-like feel.
When applying Mod Podge, layering is the most important part.
If you apply too much Mod Podge at once, the layer stays wet for too long.
This excess moisture can cause pressed flowers to lose their color more quickly, especially delicate petals.
However, applying only one thin layer usually isn’t enough to properly seal or protect the flowers.
The best approach is to build it up slowly — multiple thin layers instead of one thick coat.
Each layer should be light, even, and allowed to dry fully before adding the next.
I like to think of it the same way as applying makeup:
you don’t put everything on in one heavy layer.
You build it gently, layer by layer, until the result feels balanced and right.
This method helps preserve the color of the flowers, improves durability, and creates a softer, more natural finish overall.

DIY Begin!

Step 1: Prepare the glass
Make sure the glass jar is clean and dry.
Any dust or grease will affect how the glue holds and dries.
⸻
Step 2: Apply Mod Podge to the glass
Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge directly onto the glass surface where you want to place the flowers.
At this stage, Mod Podge looks milky white — that’s completely normal.
⸻
Step 3: Place the pressed flowers
Gently place the pressed flowers onto the glued area.
Use light pressure with your fingers or a soft brush to help them sit flat against the glass.
Take your time here.
Spacing and composition matter more than speed.
⸻
Step 4: Seal with another layer
Once the flowers are in place, brush another thin layer of Mod Podge over the top to seal them.
After a few minutes, you’ll notice the glue changing:
• from milky white
• to a soft, translucent finish
It’s not glossy, not fully frosted ,more like a gentle, misty, wood-like matte texture.
This finish works beautifully with light.
⸻
Step 5: Let it dry
Allow the jar to dry completely before adding the lights.
Drying time may vary depending on humidity, but patience here really pays off.
⸻
Step 6: Add the fairy lights
Place the battery-operated fairy lights inside the jar.
Once the light is on, everything comes together:
• the pressed flowers
• the soft matte glass
• the warm glow inside
The result feels calm, gentle, and very cozy.

⸻
Final thoughts
This is a simple DIY project:
• You can use different flowers
• Try layering leaves
• Or experiment with tissue paper for a stained-glass effect
It’s suitable for beginners, but also enjoyable for experienced crafters who want something slow and soothing.
