EP26 – A Simple Sealing Method for Pressed Flower Art (No Machine Needed)

This time, I wanted to share a simple sealing method I sometimes use for pressed flower art — especially for humid climates.

This method is not always necessary, but it can provide extra protection against moisture and help slow down fading over time.

Why Seal Pressed Flower Art?

Even when pressed flowers are fully dried, moisture in the air can still slowly affect them over time — especially in humid environments.

Some common issues include:

  • Colors fading faster
  • Moisture damage
  • Small spots or mold in very humid weather
  • Warping inside the frame

This simple sealing method helps reduce direct exposure to humidity.

It’s not perfect preservation, but it can help protect the artwork for longer.

Materials Used:

  • Desiccant sheet
  • Waterproof aluminum tape

The desiccant sheet is commonly used for packaging and food storage moisture protection.

Simple Sealing Process

1. Glue the pressed flower artwork onto the backing paper

Arrange and secure the flowers first before framing.

2. Put the artwork into the clear acrylic frame

In my case, I used an acrylic sheet instead of glass.

3. Cover the back with the desiccant sheet

This helps absorb extra moisture inside the frame.

4. Seal all four sides with aluminum tape

Leave a thin border on the front side so the frame can still close properly.

5. Seal the center back area as well

This adds extra protection against humidity entering from the back.

6. Frame it as usual

Once sealed, place everything back into the frame normally.

A Small Reminder 🌻

Even with sealing, it’s still best to:

  • Avoid direct sunlight
  • Avoid strong UV exposure
  • Keep the artwork in a dry environment

Pressed flowers are natural materials, so some fading over time is completely normal.

But personally, I think that’s also part of their beauty.

———Common Questions——

1.Do all pressed flower frames need sealing?

Not always 🌻

If you live in a dry climate, normal framing may already work well.

But in humid environments, moisture in the air can still slowly affect pressed flowers over time — even when they are fully dried.

This sealing method is simply an extra layer of protection.

2.Will sealing completely stop fading?

No.

Pressed flowers are natural materials, so some fading over time is completely normal.

However, reducing moisture and UV exposure can help slow the process down.

3.Where can I find desiccant sheets?

Desiccant sheets are commonly used for packaging and food storage moisture protection.

You can usually find them on online shopping platforms by searching:

  • “desiccant sheet”
  • “moisture absorber sheet”

4. Why use aluminum sealing tape?

The aluminum tape helps reduce direct air exchange around the frame edges.

This means the desiccant sheet is mainly dealing with the small amount of moisture already trapped inside the frame, rather than continuously absorbing moisture from the surrounding room air.

Together, they create an additional layer of protection for pressed flower art.

5. Why not use vacuum sealing?

Vacuum sealing is another preservation method often used by collectors, competition entries, museums, or long-term archival projects.

However, it usually requires additional equipment such as a vacuum sealer and specialized materials.

The method shared in this tutorial is designed to be a simpler and more accessible option for everyday pressed flower art.

It uses affordable materials, requires no machine, and can be easily applied to most pressed flower frames at home.

Some people also asked where I get the desiccant sheets and aluminum sealing tape 🌻

So I added the same materials I personally use to my website for anyone who wants to try this preservation method.
